Continuity

Continuity, as like match on action, shot reverse shot and 180 degree rule is an essential term in media. The overall concept is very simple;

Continuity is the continuation of a scene with numerous shots integrating within each other (which could have been shot in different time periods) without breaks in the scene. It also is a variation of small scenes that keeps the movie flowing without spending too much time on one particular scene.

E.G.
  • Get on the train
  • Sit down in the train cabin
  • Get off the train

I will analyse the first 10 seconds of this scene from the oscar winning movie series;

1-2 Seconds: For the first second and a half, the camera angle starts with a long shot. It then changes angle to a close up of Rocky facing Clubber Lang.

4 seconds: The camera angle stays theoretically the same but changes from a close up to a long shot.

5-10 seconds: The camera angle stays the same and the shot style (long shot) also remains the same also.
